About Me

I am the Social Welfare, Gerontology, and Reference bibliographer at the Dewey Library Graduate Library, University at Albany. In addition, I am currently enrolled in the Certificate of Advanced Study in Data Science at Syracuse University. My expected date of completion is Fall 2015.

I am very active in professional associations. I serve as President of the Academic and Special Libraries Section of the New York Library Association (NYLA ASLS), and Chair of the Social Sciences Division of the Special Libraries Association.  I am also Public Relations Chair for the Upstate New York Chapter of the Special Libraries Association (UNYSLA). I am a Past President of the former NYLA New Members Round Table, Past President of UNYSLA and have served as Chair of many other committees.

Prior to full time employment at the Dewey Library, I worked as a part time solo Librarian at the Healthcare Association of New York State. I have also served as adjunct faculty to the Information Studies Department, teaching IST 639, Online Information Retrieval. I received my M.L.S. from the University at Albany, and a B.A. in History from SUNY College at Oswego.

My professional interests include big data in the social sciences, bibliometrics and altmetrics, evidence based librarianship, social media and library marketing/outreach.

I am not a crafty person, but I do like creating and receiving mail art, and I am also an active participant in Postcrossing. About the only type of exercise I really like is walking and especially hiking. My favorite vacations are those where I go camping -- it forces me to turn off the screens and just be present in the moment.
